What is Summer Bridge?

The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology’s (CEAT) Summer Bridge Program is a three-week, residential preparatory program for incoming first-year students who have been accepted to Oklahoma State University and who plan to pursue a degree in engineering, architecture, or engineering technology. Summer Bridge is designed to guide students as they transition from high school to the rigors of CEAT coursework through academic review, orientation seminars and engineering design projects.

Preparing students for math rigors, specifically calculus, CEAT coursework is a large focus of the program. Summer Bridge participants can potentially help students shorten their time to graduation by a semester, or full year, depending on their level of math readiness at the start of the program. While increasing participant’s math skills is a focus, Summer Bridge is beneficial for students of all math skills and backgrounds. Participants build relationships with other incoming students, faculty, staff, and start building strong study habits with the assistance of peer mentors in their second, third, or fourth years of study within CEAT.

When is Summer Bridge?

The 2024 Summer Bridge Program will be held July 20 - August 9, 2024. Participants will move into Parker Hall on either Saturday, July 20 or Sunday, July 21 with program activities officially beginning Monday morning. After Summer Bridge, participants will have one week before the fall semester begins. Students are welcome, and encouraged, to stay on campus during this time to participate in Cowboy Welcome!

Where do Summer Bridge participants live?

Summer Bridge participants must live in the College's Living Learning Program (LLP) in Parker Hall during the program and for the 2024-2025 academic year. Participants are not able to move out of Parker Hall at the conclusion of the program. Programming and opportunities are tailored for Summer Bridge participants in Parker Hall for the remainder of the academic year.

The room selection process will not begin until spring 2024. To prepare for success, please submit your $300 OSU Enrollment Deposit as soon as possible after December 1 and complete the OSU Housing Application once it opens in February. We will share very specific information about room selection in the spring.

What does a typical day look like during Summer Bridge?

Participants rotate through various academic tracks (such as math, physics, intro to engineering), participate in design projects with college faculty, and hear from OSU campus resources and programs and attend study hall. Additionally, students might hear from our industry partners during a company spotlight or spend time in their small groups with peer mentors.

Do Summer Bridge participants have to move out of Parker Hall after the program and move back in during the regular fall semester move-in?

No, you only move in once. Participants have housing between Summer Bridge ending and the fall semester beginning as their Summer Bridge residence hall room is their room for the entire year.
